8th of November: A Butterfly
The attached gives instruction on how to make a butterfly – why not make some and bring along to the meeting or put on display in your window!

13th of November: An Update
We were so pleased to have 28 members at the meeting on Wednesday evening! We hope you enjoyed the evening.
At the December meeting we are having a Chip Supper and so if you have not already indicated you will be wanting Chips on that evening please could you reply to this email or respond on Facebook.
At that meeting, Chris from Broxtowe Womenās Project will be there to collect items you have donated for the women in their care. Just a reminder that they are looking for little luxuries that women can enjoy which include thefollowing suggestions:
Pleasing items to eat and drink: Hot Chocolate sachets, Chocolates, small packets of biscuits
Delightful Personal care items: shower gel, bubble batch, hand cream, moisturiser, body cream, facepacks
Enjoyable things to do: puzzle books, magazines (including WI Life), pens, pencils, stationary, books
Chris has said they can always do with wrapping paper and Sellotape although we are suggesting that those that sew can make a cotton drawstring bag(s), which will hold a magazine, and which they can keep and doesnāt go to landfill! We are asked not to pre-wrap gifts.
As before you can drop off your gifts prior to the meeting at the following addresses:
(Ed: please see the email in your inbox for the addresses)
Boxes will be outside for the period Friday 26 Nov to Saturday 4 Dec only.
Alternatively if you prefer to give money rather than buy items yourself, you can pay into our Bank (Ed: please check the email in your inbox for bank details)
PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE NO LATER THAN Friday 3 December, in order that items can be bought.
Lastly, we now have 21 members wishing to come to the meal on 15 December at Anatolia and are now closing the list of names, although we will keep a waiting list. If you have not already paid a Ā£5 deposit then you can do this directly via BACs (with name and Meal as reference) or to Cheryl at Wednesdayās Supper Club. Please email if you are unable to do either of these. To assist the restaurant please check out their menu in advance to speed up the ordering of dishes.
28th of November: No Subject
We hope you enjoyed reading about our inspiring Committee member, Rosa Davies, in the recent copy of WI Life. We are so proud of her talking so openly about the problems she has had to face and how she is making a valuable contribution to tackling loneliness and reaching out to WI members around the country.
We were advised by Broxtowe Womenās Project that magazines would be welcomed by their women and we think it would be great to pass on copies of WI Life so when you have finished please drop it off at a collection point or bring along to the December meeting!
Items can now be dropped off at the following points up until Saturday 4 December:
(Ed: addresses removed for privacy – please check the email in your inboxes for the drop-off points)
The last date for making a financial donation is 7pm Friday 3 December, to our Bank (Ed: bank details removed – check the original message in your inbox)
We will be using the tables at the December meeting and would welcome a couple of members to assist setting them up ā please email if you are willing to come at 7:10 to help set up the hall.
Returning toĀ theĀ latest copy ofĀ WIĀ Life, please take time to read on page 24Ā theĀ details ofĀ theĀ 5 resolutions which were shortlisted.Ā (Sally Penn wasĀ theĀ Nottinghamshire member representative who helped selectĀ theĀ 5 very diverse resolutions fromĀ theĀ 38 which had been submitted.)Ā To ensure that all Members haveĀ theĀ opportunity to vote,Ā theĀ Committee have decided to once again collectĀ TheĀ HiveĀ WIĀ votes online.Ā Ā Thelink for this will be emailed to you next week to give you time to consider your choice.Ā
(Ed: you can also read about the resolutions on our blog here).
Your opinion is also sought by Nottinghamshire Federation on their communications and The Hornblower, their newsletter providing details of upcoming events and the activities of WI members in the County. Thelink to complete this survey is https://forms.office.com/r/YphpVANWkL
The NFWI made the decision last year to close the WI educational centre, Denman. Since then they have been offering a wide range of online ācoursesā on an amazing range of topics, including history, travel, crafts, cookery (Home – Denman College). They now wish to find out more about membersā learning preferences and are asking members to complete a survey to inform a new educational model. This is thelink denman.org.uk/survey.
More information from your Hive WI will be coming soon in the December Newsletter BUT please can you bring your own cutlery to the meeting to eat your chips as we do not want to use plastic forks.
5th of December: December Information
We hope you have taken time to read about the five shortlisted resolutions in the latest copy of WI Life. Although Nottinghamshire Federation organise a lot of events, activities and visits for members unfortunately they are not often at a convenient time, day or place for Hive members. HOWEVER, a visit to the Observatory at Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Campus on Wednesday 2 February at 7pm has been arranged. The details are as follows:
Come along to The Clifton Campus to listen to Dr Dan Brown, Assoc Prof in Astronomy, to give a talk in the lecture theatre about the āHeritage of the night skyā before proceeding to the observatory to explore the actual telescope and also get an introduction and explore the night sky virtually using our planetarium stellarium software. Refreshments will be available.
If you would like to attend then the cost is £5.50 and you can pay either at the December or January meeting (cheque or cash to Rosanna Moore) OR pay via BACs to The Hive WI (email for details if you do not have account details). Last date for booking is 21 January 2022.
