April 2023: Stage Magic Through The Ages

Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko on Pexels.com

Our guest this month is Revered Peter Fox, a magician and member of the Magic Circle, and a bishop in The Church of England.

He will be talking about stage magic through the ages, as well as demonstrating his own magical abilities.

On being a bishop in the Magic Circle, he told the Eastern Daily Press that “there are other clergymen but I am the only bishop, which means I’m the only member of the Magic Circle who’s actually entitled to wear a pointy hat and have a stick.”

We’ll be up to our old tricks this Wednesday at the usual time and place.

See you there!

New Information

Thank you, Cheryl!

There have been big changes at The Hive WI since our Annual Meeting in March, including the voting in of a new President.

I would like to start by thanking our former president, Cheryl, for all the time, effort, ideas, and love that she has put into our WI.

Cheryl was our second president and led our meetings for three years, including overseeing the very first online WI meeting in the country during lockdown.

Here are some words of thanks that members left for her in our Facebook group:

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Cheryl who has been a fantastic President I’ve the last three years. Few WIs carried on having meetings during lockdown and Cheryl lead the committee in arranging our meetings on zoom with humour and enthusiasm. I am very grateful for all your hard work and excellent leadership Cheryl. (Michelle)

Thank you Cheryl for your doorstep support through covid locks and some of us enjoyed the zoom cocktail happy hour ,great idea.xx(Wendy)

Thank you for all you have done as president to make The Hive WI such a fun, interesting, welcoming and happy place. (Sue)

We welcome Sally as she takes the reins as the new Hive WI President. Our guest speaker and magician, Revered Peter Fox, is sure to make her first evening in her new role a magical one!

The Hive WI Committee Meeting: Every Fourth Wednesday Online

As mentioned above, The Hive WI committee has changed since the Annual Meeting.

First, I would like to welcome two new committee members, Rachel and Vicky! Welcome to the team! 🙂

Our “officers” are

  • President: Sally
  • Vice President: Marie
  • Secretary: Rachel
  • Treasurer: Rosanna

Also on the committee are

  • Katie (who does an excellent job at organising helpers in the kitchen, setting up the hall and suppliers of cake, as well bringing kitchen provisions, and coming up with ideas in committee meetings, AND leads the Café Society)
  • Sandra (who regularly helps with sales and collections at meetings, welcoming members in, and organising the Supper Club)
  • Vicky (who has just joined the committee and has offered to write the minutes)
  • Rosa (that’s me – I do the newsletter!)

Sally will no longer be the Programme Co-ordinator as she will be focusing on her new role as President.

The role of Programme Co-ordinator will go to Sarah, who is not on the committee but will liaise with it.

Thank you, Sarah! I know that the programme is in safe hands with you!

Finally, timing of committee meetings may be changing to accommodate new committee members. The committee will be testing out the later time of 19:30 (previously 18:30) to see if this works better for everybody involved.

If you would like to be involved in the committee or volunteer at our meetings in anyway, please get in touch! WIs are run by members and The Hive WI is no different.

Thank you again to everybody who has ever helped out at a meeting, no matter how small. It really does help.
